Must be experienced”

Dec 15, 2007

I`ve been to Casa Condesa 5 times and it`s definitely my favorite gay spot in all of Mexico.

The place is very informal and laid back and the staff makes you feel at home right away. It`s close to the gay beach and bar`s. In fact, I rarely use a taxi when at the Casa .

They serve breakfast whenever you want till 1pm. The guests can also have dinner with the owner Jamie (originaly from Dallas, who opened the place 10 year ago) and the general manager Bernado (a fairly affluent mexican who knows acapulco inside out). Both are very friendly, personnable and interesting. Dinnertime is also a privilleged moment to get to know the other guests, share experiences of the day and hopes of the evening and night to come.

A very unique place that must be experienced.

An absolute gem in Acapulco!”

From my first contact with James (the owner) when I was inquiring about rates and availability, right to the moment he dropped me off at the airport, he was warm and welcoming.

The Casa Condesa provides a very unique experience! You enter through a small door off the street and then up the stairs to a lush tropical garden and pool area. James introduced me to the other guests and offered me a welcome cold beer. Bernado (the General Manager) is very welcoming and available to answer questions. Staying at Casa Condesa is more like staying in a friend’s house than staying in a hotel. Ira cooks a great breakfast, James and Bernado cook a wonderful dinner each night. Dinner is served under the thatched roof on the balcony overlooking Acapulco. James and Bernado genuinely enjoy getting to know you. They also have great stories about Acapulco!

My room was well appointed with king bed (very comfortable), air conditioning, cable TV, and DVD.

Casa Condesa is very well located. Just a few blocks away from the gay beach, great restaurants, shopping mall, and gay clubs. James and Bernado will definitely give you the must do’s in Acapulco.

I am already looking forward to my next stay at Casa Condesa.

My favourite gay resort in Mexico”

Casa Condesa

I wasn´t sure where to stay when I went to Acapulco for a gay holiday. First, I went to Villa Roqueta, which I wouldn´t personally recommend unless you like isolation. This place used to be Gloria Gaynor’s luxury pad, but it is now a sleepy luxury boutique retreat, some 40 minutes from all the gay action. Okay if you want to write a book, but not ideal for people who want to enjoy Acapulco’s hot gay life.

I checked out some other gay guesthouses, but, boy was I glad when I found Casa Condesa (www.casacondesa.com). It´s a gay-owned guesthouse for gay men. It caters for all age ranges.

It is ideally located, being only 10 minutes walk from Betos gay beach and all the gay bars.

What´s more, the noise of traffic from the main Costera dies away when you enter through the front door. Casa Condesa consists of 8 private rooms individualy and richly decorated in a Bohemian style, set across several levels of dense tropical foliage.

There are several communal areas, the swimming pool where you can swim naked if you desire, sun bathing areas (nude permitted), the kitchen area and an upstair rooftop terrace, shaded by palapas, where you can read many good books, enjoy a meal, or watch the best sunsets in the world, as the sun sets over Acapulco Bay.

I found James, the owner, and his small team of staff to be incredibly warm and attentive.

There is a sign upon entry that simply says Mi casa es su casa, meaning My house is your house. There is another sign, saying Familia. I can genuinely say that I felt like part of a small and friendly family.

10 minutes away is Betos beach, situated below the huge monolith of Fiesta Americana Hotel. It´s a narrow beach, of breadcrumb, yellow sand and a tempestuous ocean which is often, but not always, safe for swimming.

There are some palapas above the shoreline with tables and red tablecloths. It is here that all the gay guys – from USA, Canada, England, France, Holland, Germany, Argentina, Brazil congregate.

Best of all are the Mexican guys – forget ´Northern´ countries´ sang froid (cold blood), we found the Mexican guys to be unreservedly warm and friendly and very open and approachable about homosexuality.

There are a number of gay discos nearby to Casa Condes, Betos and Boy´s Club and some other newer ones. You can ask for addresses at Casa Condesa.

Casa Condesa also has a guy called Aldo who gives very good, professional and therapeutic massages, to relieve all those aching muscles are partying.

Breakfast and dinner were excellent here.

I would not fail to recommend the guesthouse to anyone intending to visit Acapulco.

I´ve visited Cancun and Key West for gay holidays, and whilst Cancun was okay, and Key West was expensive and busy, I prefer Acapulco any day. It´s a true Mexican experience, where gay life is easily accessible.

Good Day!! My name is Jesus Diaz, I was a guest at Casa Condesa on May 23 through the 26th. I take this oppurtunity to thank all the staff that made my stay unforgettable. Two months have passed and when I need to think of good life, I simply close my eyes and think of the wonderful people of Acapulco, especially Casa Condesa. With great appreciation I extend my warmest thoughts to the crew. It has been my pleasure......... I assure I will return this year!!!! Thank you!!!!!!

Dear James, i hope this message finds you well and on the way to recovery after your recent operation. my stay last month was one of the most enjoyable times i have had , please pass my graditude on to Johnny and the staff , i travel often and have stayed in many exclusive establishments , but a stay at casa condesa rates as a unique experience , whilst it may be a little early to book , i will be returning in August of 2006 and shall contact you again for confirmation around October of this year Once again thank you for creating a unique oasis and ensuring that my stay was above my expectations , and i hope to see you again next year in good health Trevor Gorman.

Tom and I got back to Mexico City about midnight. There was tons and tons of traffic near Cuernavaca, and then it cleared up.  Today I'm taking him out to the pyramids to get a little bit of exercise.
See you again!  Thanks again for a nice and enjoyable safe place to stay.

Dear James,

What did I think of my stay at Casa Condesa?  Where to begin?  My trip and arrival in Acapulco was utter chaos.  It couldn't have been worse.  Casa Condesa was the oasis I was looking for.  I travel a lot.  I've been to numerous guest houses in dozens of places like Key West, Palm Springs, Fort Lauderdale, St Croix,  Provincetown, Puerta Vallarta, and so on.  Honestly, my stay at Casa Condesa was one of the best experiences I've had.  Your place is charming, very homey, and a little eccentric.  (Where are the doorknobs?)  I felt immediately comfortable.  The staff could not have been nicer, more courteous, or more accommodating.  They're very cute as well.  I felt welcomed and pampered at the same time.  Not only did they treat me well but they extended the same courtesy to my guest.  My room was spotlessly cleaned early in the day allowing me to nap if I so desired.  The pool was a pleasure to dip into after the heat of the beach and something I very much enjoyed.  Meals were delicious and plentiful.  Although, next time I have to watch myself with the spicy food.  I've always had a reaction to spicy food and should have known better.  My little stomach problem was a result of my own negligence.  Having said that, it's hard to resist such delicious meals.  (You need to package the coconut ice cream.)  Johnny was first class all the way.  He was always helpful, polite, and a hell of a nice guy.  He extended himself far beyond what anyone could expect.  As for you, my friend, you are the ultimate house mother.  A combination of Shirley McLaine and Donna Reed, with a touch of Alec Guinness thrown in.  Casa Condesa is not just a guest house but a real home filled with warmth, laughs, and great fun.  I am sooooo looking forward to my return in three weeks.  Hopefully, it will be the beginning of a long relationship.  Honestly, I can't think of anything to complain about.  Believe me, if there was something, I would tell you.  My stay was as close to perfect as anyone could hope for.  I had a wonderful time!

See you soon,
Joe

I enjoyed my stay at you guest house very much! I liked the
dinner'swith the great conversations of you and all the guests...
It felt more like visiting friends than staying at a hotel type
environment. When ever I come to Acapulco in the future I
will stay there. THank you again!

As always I had a wonderful stay.  Being in the business I could probably comment on 100 differente things but one of the main reasons I continue to choose your little casa is the wonderful service, people and excellent options.

I have no complaints no regrets.......... and will return.  Unfortunately not as soon as I would like.

I wouldn't change a thing.  Thank you and well wishes to all.

Thanks for sending the license.  I got it a few days after you mailed it.As for the suggestions for the house, I don't have too many, I really enjoy staying there.  I guess some of the biggest things are outside your control...when I'm deciding between Acapulco and Puerta Vallarta, PV is always easier to get to from Ca. by plane and the rooms are usually between $60-100 US, a bit better.Your staff is always very friendly...this time..... Salvador and Roman were particularly nice.  The food is good and the place is clean.  And you can't beat the location.I look forward to visiting again. See you then.

James,
Muchas Gracias por todo!! I didn't have a chance to
thank you as I was leaving.  Pepe said you were
sleeping.  It was such a wonderful weekend.  Thank you
for that room...it was absolutely perfect.  I would
not object to having it again.  Oh yea, sorry about
the light switch.  I went to turn it on Sunday night
and it simply fell off.  I told Pepe and he said not
to worry that it would get fixed.  One more thing...I
am such a ditz...Please forgive me..I meant to leave a
tip prior to leaving but I was preoccupied.  I will
take care of it my next visit.  You have a most
hospitable staff.  James, Thank you!  See you soon,

                      Dear James,

I just wanted to thank you for genuine hospitality.  Your B & B is absolutely beautiful. I was thrilled to  be able to return for a second visit.  Gabriel, Luis, Irma, Vicente and you were very friendly and accommodating (by the way, I forgot to leave Irma a tip...please let her know I'll make it up to her next time).  ,,,,
I wish you many more years of success.  I will spread the word about your "casa" to the gay community here in North Carolina.

Hi James,
As of right now, I am planning on being at your
place Nov. 22-Dec 6.  These dates could shift a
litttle but I feel good with them.  If anything, I
would come and stay 1 week later(Nov 29- Dec 13).  I
also plan a visit in late Feb and early March if
things work out.
I saw my friend Marlon the other day and he said he
was going to Acapulco soon and staying at your place.
Apparently he has been there before.
   All for now.

Hi:

How are you; we wanted to really thank you because we deeply enjoyed
staying at your place; it was wonderfull the opportunity to meet you as well as
Pepe, Frank and the nice people we met at Casa Condesa, certainly we
will for sure recomend your spot in Acapulco and we are already looking
forward to return again probably for a longer stay, it seemed to short,
actually it was, we were really tired and appreciated the opportunity to relax in a
different way. By copying to Pablo, Thomas and Brian we are asking all
of you to please keep in touch, we think that something more than a casual
encounter might rise after we met. Fortunately our time after Acapulco
has been very hectic regarding work, so that is the reason for us to write
you all until now, and well here we are again in the biggest city in the
world, where we create, work, love and care as much as we can for our friends
old and new. We are sending you a big hug, and again Thank you for being
part of this experience, a very important piece of our life. Please say hello
to the nice lady who is also part of the staff in Casa Condesa, hope to hear
from all of you soon, Luis and Javier

Thank you James for being a wonderful and gracious host. We had a great time and we loved Acapulco. Can't wait to return. My computer was down when I returned home, so I am just today able to send e-mails. Bill said that he did not put my e-mail address in your book, so here it is. Wed, 30 Jan 2002 20:08:04 EST

Dear Jaime y Pepe,

Had a wonderful time and more wonderful to have met you both.  You sure know
how to make everyone feel at home.  (I am not asking for a refund because of
the jeep trip from the airport, nor for the mosquito bites, or the lack of
cold water - cuz it was nice roughing it.)  ;-)  Also nice that you
introduced us to your many friends, making it an even greater memoriable
vacation.  Glad I stayed away from the bars ---tooooooo much temptation - but
was fun to have seen it the last night.  Already miss the nice fresh coffee,
breakfast prepared by the cute cook and the cute cook that prepared the
evening meals - which was more that I had expected!  It was relaxing just to
watch the HOST in his casual dress - running a truly quality establishment.
It is time for you to take a bow now Jaime.......   The flight to Dallas was
uneventful, but nice.  In Dallas it was another story - our second reschuled
flight was cancelled be-
cause of engine problems.  So after waiting another hour - we arroved in S.D.
rather late.  My cold has been getting worse - but think that I will survive.
Give my best wished to all the staff at Casa Condesa.  Will keep in touch -
as I don't want you all to forget me.  I have washed all my laundry - and
found another floating tag with a letter (L for large on it)???     El
gordito, with love,  Santiago.

James,  thanks for all the e-mails.  Well, wherever I sleep , I know one thing for sure--I am going to Acapulco on the 18th and coming back on the 1st.  I already got the ticket.  If it comes to the futon, that's o.k.   But whatever.  Anyway, It seems that you are doing  some last minute fine tuning.  Just squeeze me in somewhere in that casa.
The most important thing is it would be nice just to be there for the
holidays with you guys.
From Laguna.. Joe
P.S. ask Pepe to let me know an Acapulco chat site.. It would be fun to meet
some guys before I get there.

Dear James
I was lucky to stay your Casa Condesa.
I am sorry to send mail so late. Because I was very busy to decolate
my restaurant the Christmas color. I must apologize you that I found the keys in my jeans! What can I do ?   I thought to send it by air mail but if it is lost or
stolen by mexican post office,  it will make big ploblem for security.
So, may I keep them until my next stay in acapulco?

Thank you .....for a wonderful week in Acapulco.  We really enjoyed ourselves and greatly appreciated your  warm hospitality, tour guide and concierge services, and charming company. We definitely hope to make it back to Acapulco some day.

Apart from being a very long trip, the flights home were uneventful.
Arrived in Seattle to find it 46 degrees and raining - typical November
weather for the Pacific Northwest.  Thanks again for a memorable vacation.

Bill and Jim

........We has such a blast at your place and we're going to send everyone we know heading for Acapulco right to your door!   Casa Condesa was one of the highlights of our holiday. We have some fantastic memories of our time with you. Oaxaca was, as you told us, magnificent and the Buganvillias was perfect, too.  Really added something to an already great time..   Let me know if there is anything we can/send you from England. Please keep in touch. Love to Pepe!.... Dom & Stu dominic@dinatale.abel.co.uk

"su casa es mi casa" es verdad. You made me feel so at home from the instant I walked into your beautiful villa hanging on the rocks, adorned with lush foliage, plants, flowers, and garnished with your gracious hospitality. The cuisine was excellent, the cervesa was an ever-flowing fountain that quenched the most ardent thirst, and the beds were hard and firm. Your guests enjoyed the ambiance and reacted to it by being charming conversationalists, good dinner guests, and came from every background and nation. Of all bed & bkfts I've been in, yours is the best. Like McArthur, I shall return. I am an addict and will have to have another week or two or a hundred to slake the thirst that you and your staff, including Pepe,Babino & Marecelino, have caused in me. Muchas gracias. glenn thank you so much for taking me to the airport today, taking time to have coffee with me, buying me the ny times and the st. pete times, and just making me feel so loved. you have class, man, you really have class. my luck has prevailed. this site i found on the net is wundebar. it's nestled on a hillside, as if a child had taken his toy blocks and flung them into the shrubbery, bits and pieces of it scattered amidst boulders, rocks, trees and rooms that could have been a scene for swiss family robinson, especially their tree house. an architect built it in the 60s for his home and it's been added too in bits and pieces ever since. my room is indeed a little cubicle, but big enough for me, with a comfortable bed, a radio, closets and an overhead fan that languidly stirs the sultry air. the public areas are fantastic. a big florida room overlooks the street from the second floor and is comfortably furnished with couches and lots of pillows. a bookcase on the wall is filled with objets d'arte, a good size collection of books fills a bookcase, and there's a lacquered chest with mother of pearl that serves as a coffee table. i'm sitting at the keyboard of a fine computer tucked in between the dining room and the front room. i've found a home. may never leave. the host is most cordial and congenial. you can tell he likes people and has found his niche in life. right now he is cooking dinner of pok chops and a dish of big, big potatoes garnished with a melange of red, yellow and green peppers (but no holopena). smells delicious. can hardly wait to partake of the repast he is preparing for his guests. obviously it is a labor of love. have had three cervezas or so while sitting around the pool chatting with some of the other guests. a couple brought their little dog, daisy, with them, driving down from mexico city. they are in their 30s i'd guess and quite nice but rather shy. maybe they're honeymooners? could be, they're very lovey-dovey. the staff consists of balbina, a young woman who is the housekeeper, pierre the gatekeeper and gardener, and a young man, pepe, who is the night clerk, a second or third job for him, i think. antiques dot the niches and cracks and crannies of this place, which is filled with lush vegetation, mangoes keep dropping down into the if ever they bombard the pool, but was told not yet, though they do look menacing. all kinds of flowers are in full bloom: azaleas, bougainvilla, hyacinth, wisteria, etc. their fragrance fills the air. the pool is a gem tucked in the midst of all this beauty. lounge chairs, deck chairs, benches surround it for sunbathing and just lmozart, bach & betthoven. any wonder why i feel so at home? felt instantly comfortable the minute i walked in thounging and sleeping and being lazy. a stereo system fills the air with strains of handel, vivaldi, e door, as if i were returning home. this is my kinda place. may never leave. since the host learned that i am an artist and an author, he has invited me to write for the webpage and to paint a mural while i'm here. he suggested the refrigerator door but i'm more inclined to turn the purple walls of the bathroom, which are rather dark and ominous looking, into a jungle, with a riot of big elephant ears and a lush profusion of foliage that will make you look round the bend for the African Queen to sail into view with Humphrey and Kate peering through the branches, which they push aside to ensure their passage. sound ok? maybe i'll paint in a parrot or two for color. just let the creative juices flow. the host has departed with two guests for the airport to pick up an errant guest who was supposed to arrive an hour ago. hope they find him. glad i got here without any trouble. doubt if i'll even go to town though i am toying with riding a bus to the end of the line and just seeing what's out there. i could spend the whole time right here and never leave. my kinda place. feel right at home. talked to a lot of people in line as we went through customs. you have to push a button and if it's red you have to open up your luggage. mine turned green and i sailed right through, fortunately. they had only four windows to process hundreds of people but it moved quickly as they didn't check much luggage. had so much to do in order to leave this morning. takes a lot of phone calls and checking to get everything ready. always forget something, but don't know what this time. such a relief to be out of there and already safely esconsced here in this llittle villa by the sea, a room with a view, so to speak. will keep you informed as to what happens. off to a good start. good omen, eh? even greater delights are in store, i'm sure. just hope golden girl doesn't get abducted since i left her on the street in front of the bldg, bereft of her license plates, which someone must have stolen the other night as i was visiting my cuz over in Treasure Island. Mo and John had taken me out to a Chinese place, which was very nice, but losing my plates was a high price to pay. the police pulled me over as i was driving home and inquired about their absence. they were very nice and didn't give me a hard time. couldn't believe when they told me they were missing. the storage closets at mo's place had been broken into and ransacked last week, so perhaps the same thieves returned? that will be a hassle for my return, but won't think about that just now. am enjoying the ambiance of this place too much. adios, amigo
